What’s New in Wine Country: Exciting Plans for Edna Valley and Adelaida

What’s New in Wine Country: Exciting Plans for Edna Valley and Adelaida

The San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission recently released its agenda for the October 23, 2025 meeting — and it’s shaping up to be a meaningful one for our local wine community. Two standout projects are up for review: David Bush’s EDNA Winery expansion in Edna Valley and Coastline Vineyards, LLC’s major update in Paso Robles’ Adelaida District.

These proposals capture exactly what makes the Central Coast so special — a thoughtful blend of progress, preservation, and passion for hospitality.

EDNA Winery: Expanding Flavor and Hospitality in the Heart of Edna Valley

If you’ve spent time in Edna Valley recently, you already know that David Bush and the EDNA Winery team have a knack for combining great wine with equally memorable food. Now, they’re planning to take that experience to the next level.

The new proposal would allow EDNA Winery to expand its food service area from 800 to 1,758 square feet, transforming the tasting room into a more complete restaurant-style experience — all without expanding the building itself.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • A new 147-square-foot deli counter offering sandwiches and pre-packaged bites
  • Expanded use of the existing 554-square-foot commercial kitchen to elevate pairing menus
  • No additional building expansion — just a smart redesign inside the 24,800-square-foot hospitality space

The site, located at 2585 Biddle Ranch Road, will continue to operate fully within its agricultural zoning. County staff have recommended approval, noting that the project stays consistent with local land use goals and doesn’t create new environmental impacts.

In short, visitors can look forward to a richer culinary experience the next time they stop in for a tasting.

Coastline Vineyards, LLC: Restoration, Growth, and a Splash of Style in Adelaida

Further north in Paso Robles wine country, Coastline Vineyards, LLC is proposing a two-phase project that’s part restoration, part expansion — and all about improving the guest experience.

Phase 1: Fresh Look and Smart Fixes

The first phase focuses on clean-up, compliance, and upgrades:

  • New 10,983-square-foot parking area for better guest flow
  • Two new entry monuments to enhance curb appeal
  • Tasting room repaint from tan to crisp white
  • Conversion of a former wastewater pond into a private pool with lighting, water features, and three small storage structures

Phase 2: Growth and Experience

The second phase brings thoughtful growth and creativity:

  • Expanding production (2,955 sq. ft.), barrel storage (2,724 sq. ft.), and kitchen space (180 sq. ft.)
  • Increasing Bed & Breakfast rooms from 5 to 8
  • Permission to distill grappa and agave spirits — a fun new twist!
  • Expanding the food service area from 800 to 3,073 square feet
  • Hosting nine annual events with flexible guest counts and live outdoor music

County staff have also recommended approval here, supported by an environmental addendum covering tree protection, erosion control, and water management — ensuring that the upgrades enhance, not harm, the surrounding land.

What It Means for Our Region

These two projects reflect the thoughtful growth that defines the San Luis Obispo County wine industry today.

  • EDNA Winery is elevating its culinary and hospitality offerings, turning a wine tasting into a fuller sensory experience.
  • Coastline Vineyards is modernizing and expanding while staying grounded in its agricultural and environmental values.

Together, they highlight a growing trend — local wineries fine-tuning their visitor experiences in ways that celebrate both the land and the lifestyle of the Central Coast.

The Planning Commission will review both proposals on October 23, 2025, and if approved, these projects will continue shaping the future of SLO County wine country — one thoughtful sip at a time..
